Last Sunday we participated with more than 20 runners in the Alster Run organized by a German health insurance company (KKH).
The entry fee (8 euro for each runner) went to Special Olympics Deutschland e. V. – a sports organization for people with disabalities. The running distances we choose for our students was or 2.5 or 7.4 km, around the Outer Alster
The programme was very family-friendly (different distances for different target groups) and motivating, especially the guided warming-up exercises which were great fun for everybody (sportsmen and fans :-)). We think that the fotos speak well for themselves.
As special guests we met Dieter Baumann, former Olympic champion (5000 m in 1992), the well-known German comedian and ventriloquist, Werner Momsen and we welcomed Professor Martin Siebenborn who joined the MathMods teaching team last year and one of our PdD students, Frédéric Haller.
All our sportsmen were very successful. Congratulations!
The fastest of all runners was Professor Martin Siebenborn with sensational 24.38 minutes (7.4 km).
At the end there was a prize-giving ceremony and it was awarded a giant glass (1 litre) with non alcoholic beer as well as a cheque for 500 euros to the Universität Hamburg for being the largest team of the event! (This success was a bit unexpected for all of us).
Congratulations to the whole team and supporters!
