GDANSK UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY (GUT) is the largest technical university in the Pomeranian Region and one of the oldest technical universities in Poland. The first inauguration of the academic year took place in 1904. The University was created in Gdańsk, a city with over 1000 years of history and the largest maritime, cultural and scientific centre in Northern Poland. GUT employs over 2500 staff members, including more than 1200 academic teachers (including 120 full professors). The majority of the faculties hold full academic rights which means they are authorized to confer degrees such as DSc, PhD, M.Sc and BSc. GUT is the organizer of a number of national and international conferences. GUT carries out international and national projects within EU Programmes, and continues cooperation with more than 200 foreign universities and other research institutions. GUT consists of 9 Faculties over 28,000 students enrolled.

Gdansk is a city of more than half a million inhabitants, a strong economic, scientific and cultural centre located in the north of Poland, at the Baltic Sea (the Polish maritime capital). With over a thousand years of history (in 1997 Gdansk celebrated its millennium) and its Hanseatic tradition, the city has always played a major role in the commercial relationships between the Northern and Western Europe on the one hand and the countries of the Central and Eastern Europe on the other. It is also the cradle of "Solidarity", Eastern Europe's first Independent Trade Union which triggered the historical changes in this part of the Continent in 1980.The city features precious historical buildings (including the largest brick-made church in the world, St. Mary's Basilica, late Gothic), museums, universities and colleges.
The Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport is the third largest airport in Poland and it serves as an auxiliary airport for Warsaw, therefore, it is very easy to get there by plane from many destinations in the world (direct flights from the most important European cities).The airport is connected to the city by city buses (bus 110 for Gdansk Wrzeszcz railway station or bus B for Gdansk Glowny railway station). Gdansk can also be easily reached by train from whole Europe and by ferries from northern Europe.
