How to get to Tiburtina Station from Fiumicino Airport

• The Fiumicino Airport is connected to Tiburtina Station by local trains, runing from 6 a.m. to 10.30 p.m. every 20 minutes
• Duration: around 50 minutes
• Ticket cost is 8.00 euro
• Note that using a taxi from the airport to Tiburtina is very expensive (you may be charged even more than 50 euro!)
• In order to catch a train to Tiburtina after getting off your plane at Fiumicino Airport, just follow the signs to the Train Station (it is located inside the airport).

From Fiumicino Airport there are two train lines:

• one line, which is bound for "Roma Termini" station (do not take this! If you happen to get to Termini Station instead of Tiburtina, just use the Underground (Metro) line B, bound for Rebibbia (there are a lot of signs indicating "Linea B", "direzione Rebibbia"). Your destination is Tiburtina (only 4 stops).
• another line (use this!), which calls at Tiburtina. But note that the trains calling at Tiburtina are actually bound for "Orte" or "Fara Sabina", so you may find these names on the timetable instead of "Stazione Tiburtina". There are ten stops after leaving the airport to get to Tiburtina (so be ready to get off after the ninth station called "Roma Tuscolana").

How to get to Tiburtina Station from Ciampino Airport

• You'll find different buses parked right outside the arrival terminal (Ciampino airport is quite small, btw): ask the driver or look at the display on the bus. Your destination is Anagnina (it is the name of an underground - metro station). Tickets can be bought on the bus (price is around 1 EUR).
• After reaching the Anagnina metro station, get off the bus, walk down the steps and enter the underground station (you will see an "M" (metro) on the signs).
• Buy a ticket (around 1.5 euro): there are self-service machines or desks.
• From Anagnina there is only one underground line (line A). Get off at Termini (the main train station in Rome, btw).
• Now change trains and take the metro line B, bound for Rebibbia. Your destination is Tiburtina (only 4 stops).

From Pescara Airport to L'Aquila

• Once you are outside the airport, catch bus number 8 or 38.
• A ticket costs around 1 euro. Tickets can be bought from automatic machines or desks.
• Duration: around 20 minutes.
• The bus will take you to Piazza della Repubblica in Pescara, a large square in front of "Pescara centrale" train station.
• Buy a ticket for L'Aquila at the ticket office (biglietteria in Italian) you will find at the bottom of the square.
• A ticket costs around 14 euros.
• Duration: around 1 hour and 50 minutes.
• Alternatively, you can catch a train, which is definetely cheaper (around 7 EUR) but you'll have to change trains at Sulmona (a town between Pescara and L'Aquila), so the whole journey could take you almost 3 hours.

Gaspari coach timetable from/to Rome airports

1) At Fiumicino Airport Gaspari coaches depart from the bus stalls just outside the Arrival Terminal 3 (follow the directions to the bus stop). 

2) At Ciampino Airport Gaspari coaches depart from the bus stalls you'll see when you get out of the airport.

3) The first stop that Gaspari coaches will do in L'Aquila is the one at the Hotel Amiternum (see the map below). When you get off, you will find a bar next to the hotel, which sells bus tickets (as well as sandwiches, drinks etc...) and has toilets, too (note there are no toilets on the coach, though).

• From the Hotel Amiternum you can catch most local buses (orange/blue buses run by A.M.A.) If you're catching a bus bound for our Department, you'll have to cross the petrol station and walk to the road called SS80 [map, photo]
• From here you can also board another TUA/ARPA coach or FlixBus or Itabus, connecting L'Aquila to most popular Italian cities (Rome, Naples, Florence, Milan, etc.).

• You will find the coach station outside the Tiburtina Station (connected by local trains to the Fiumicino Airport - see the related section for details). When you get out of the station (either Metro or Train station), just cross two roads with a flyover above you and keep walking straight on with the station at your back. You may see the indication "Capolinea Atral e Cotral" or "Autostazione Tibus";
• TUA/ARPA tickets (around 11 euro) have to be purchased, before getting on the bus, at the ticket office you will find there. Most TUA/Arpa coaches to L'Aquila will be leaving from parking lot no. 1 (stallo 1 in Italian).
• Gaspari tickets (around 9 euro) can be purchased online or even on board. 
• When the coach drives through the toll gate in L'Aquila, please get ready to alight the bus, as it will be stopping after a few seconds. This stop is not a coach station, but do not hesitate to get off there even though you will just see a pavement and a hotel, called the Hotel Amiternum.
• When you get off, you will find a bar next to the Hotel Amiternum, which sells bus tickets, snacks, drinks, and has toilets, too.
  • From the Hotel Amiternum you can catch several local buses (orange/blue buses run by A.M.A.) to get to the Department of Mathematics or to L'Aquilone Shopping Center or any other places in L'Aquila.
  • From here you can also board another TUA/ARPA coach or FlixBus coaches, connecting L'Aquila to most popular Italian cities (Rome, Naples, Florence, Milan, etc.).

• TUA/ARPA and Gaspari coaches will also be doing other stops in L'Aquila city centre, including the main bus station called "Collemaggio", which is at a short walking distance to the old city centre as well as to the GSSI (Gran Sasso Science Institute).
